Preparing children for congregational worship

Children are an important part of Shandon’s worship services. During the Word for Children, one of the ministers reads a Bible story. The children’s bulletin provides learning activities to coordinate with the service.

A six-week worship readiness class usually taught in the fall helps prepare our first-graders to attend worship with their families and to better understand and participate in the service. Reading, listening, following instructions, counting and singing – all part of first-grade curriculum – are involved in the worship service. Children learn about the worship service, the sanctuary and the sacraments.
